Flyers at Bruins

Few thoughts:

Pretty intrigued by the idea of adding Soderberg. I'll remain hopefully optimistic

Lucic to Seguin pass was pretty nifty

It's pretty obvious where the Flyers flaws lie, and it's not their skill on offense. The Paille goal was a direct of result of Luke Schenn acting like Luke Schenn. Probably not the best spot to step up in the middle of the blue line

Schenn almost did it again when he stepped up on Marchand which led to 2on1

Good to see some snarl back in Horton

PK continues to be stellar

Tuukka was solid in net. Defense as a whole was very strong

  1. Couldn't watch the game. Thanks for the recap. I'm glad Horton did something. Both he and Lucic leave you wanting at times.

Yeah I'm optimistic that Soderberg can come and give it a try. He's 6-3 225 and potted 31 goals. I think Caron is being showcased as a possible throw in on something Pete has cooking. Maybe. You never know.

Glad to hear Rask had a good outing. He's an emotional player and that's not always best for a goalie.

  2. I think you sell Caron short. If the third line continues to play like it did, and Caron contributes like he did today, he will not be traded. Soderberg may be the same size as Joe Colborne, but he play as soft as him as well. Pevs and Kelly need some one good along the wall, not someone out there for a skate.

  3. B16. Unless you watch european hockey I'm not sure how you know that Soderberg is soft. In fact he's had years where he was a minute a game. He led his league in scoring despite averaging nearly a minute in penalties per game. When someone who's actually seen him play says he's the real deal, I have to believe them.

As for Caron. If Pandolfo and Bourque are playing ahead of you then I'm not sure you're that good. Macdermid and Koko have the best chance to ever play in the N. IMO.

If Soderberg is better he should play, period. I wonder if he is so good why he isn't over here already. Many players are better on larger ice surfaces, without the same physical expectations of the NHL. Pandolfo and Bourque are NOT playing ahead of him today, and were only on the roster because of injuries and giving a chance to someone. I don't know what N.IMO means but I think Macdermid will eventually take over from Thornton and I do like KoKO as well.
Anon, you do forget that Caron did play his best towards the end of last season and did not dress initially because Coach J decided to go with experience, which didn't work out. He does seem to compliment Kelly and Peverly, but only time will tell.

  5. I can't speak to Soderberg's physicality, as I've never seen him play, but if he's big and skilled, I'll take it. Scoring touch is what the third line needs. Caron played a good game, and I really like his game, but the 3rd line could cycle fine with Pevs and Kelly. I feel like they need someone to finish plays. Soderberg has been described as a #2 NHL center, and I'll take that for free (salary cap is no concern).

  6. B16. Soderberg suffered a serious eye injury and I think he probably wanted to be close to home after something so traumatic. I can't speak to his vision but he can see where the net is pretty well. If he's a good as TSN says than that would allow the team to move some guys around. Maybe put Lucic or Horton down to the third line now and then. I think you'll agree that Caron only has so many chances left. Peverly doesn't seem to have a lot of jump this year. Is it me or does he look a little slower?

  7. I'm glad you mentioned Schenn. I was really happy that T.O kept that pylon in the East. He's a decent AHL player at best. The hype machine blew this guy up. Can't skate. Can't shoot. Can't fight. He's lead the league in hits after he takes an hour to get there and the forward has surveyed his options. I'm bitter that so many deserving players don't get near the chance a high draft pick does.

I like how the Oilers are shopping Gagne. He's got amazing hands but he's slow and small. All those high picks don't mean much. See Colombus.

Still hurting after Canada's loss to you guys yesterday at the W.B Classic. One word. Pitching. We still can beat you at hockey. Oh wait. Well sometimes. But we used to. Ha Ha.
